14th Annual Heart of Marin Awards Ceremony

The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Excellence and the Tamalpais Bank directed the 14th Annual Heart of Marin Awards Ceremony in January, 2007. The International Association of Sufism’s Voices for Justice Department was nominated for Achievement in Nonprofit Excellence. Voices for Justice extends appreciation to the International Association of Sufism for the opportunity to attend. Voices for Justice enjoyed meeting fellow nonprofit leaders in Marin County.

A Children’s Art Calendar

Voices for Justice created our very first Children’s Art Calendar for the 2007 calendar year. Voices for Justice asked a community of children ranging in age and experience to reflect on children’s access to basic needs: shelter, water, health care and nutritional food. In turn, children created beautiful pieces of art, raising awareness about the basic needs that every child deserves. Voices for Justice, intends to continue the Calendar Project annually.

Voices for Justice Supports the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Did you know?
Breast cancer is a leading cause of death for women in the world
Three million women in the United States are living with breast cancer
In the past five years, 4.4 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer and survived

Voices for Justice supported The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and the Avon Foundation for promoting awareness and providing education throughout the world about the severity of breast cancer. (The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer was held on July 7-8th, 2007 in San Francisco, California.)

Save the Children Knit Cap Project

Voices for Justice participated in Save the Children’s knit cap project and donated several hand knit infant caps to underprivileged mothers and infants. Save the Children is an international organization advocating for children globally. On January 31st, 2007 over 260,000 infant caps were taken to Washington, D.C. Members from Save the Children met with policymakers and asked them to do more for newborns internationally. The caps were then delivered to infants in Malawi and Bangladesh. Both countries have high rates of infant death. Many newborns will be warmer this year!
